Maybelle?

Originally from Southern Louisiana, the electric quartet Maybelle has been delivering explosive and moving live performances to the Bay Area for the past year. This eclectic ensemble ranges from deep-grooving funk-fusion improvisations to smart and soulful original compositions to ass-kicking fist-in-the-air swamp rock. Maybelle consists of four seasoned players who first began creating music together as part of the New Orleans music scene. Determined to bring the spirit of that very special place to broader audiences, the quartet has been working to carve their place out here on the West Coast.

Having cut his teeth in both New Orleans, LA and Nashville, TN, Drummer Will McMains forms the bedrock foundation of the band. His unique and skillful approach to driving, sinewy funk beats has quickly become a dance floor favorite. His brother Julius "Jake" McMains, the group's electric bassist, has a sound deeply rooted in Jazz and the art of improvisation. His bass style is both expressive and melodic, as well as extremely groove-able. Thomas Johnson, the group's Guitarist and one of two Vocalists, provides the leads. His soloing style, remarkable in its versatility and range, is characterized by both rapid fire finger picking and searing slide work. Rounding out the group is Keyboardist and Vocalist Scott Lebell. The senior member of the quartet, Lebell's soul-filled stage presence and funky organ chops have been popular in the New Orleans area for many years.

Maybelle has shared the stage with a wide variety of acts including: Eric Lindell, George Porter, Jr. (The Meters, PBS), Marc Ford (The Black Crowes, Ben Harper), Topaz, Outformation, G-Love, Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, and Irvin Mayfield. All four members have a strong passion for live performance, and love working hard at all aspects of creating a memorable experience for both the audience and themselves.
